Day 6/365: I Let a Random App Tell Me What to Shoot
The Challenge
I'm using a random generator app with 19 different photography prompts. Every time I take a photo, the app gives me a new constraint to work with.
Today in Yangcheng, Kaohsiung, I let the generator guide my entire shoot. Each photo is the result of whatever prompt came up next.
How It Works
First prompt: Color - I looked for vibrant scenes worth capturing.
Next: Portrait - I spotted an old guy on the street and asked if I could take his portrait. He agreed.
Finally: Decisive Moment - This is where the featured image came from. Two people sharing street food outside a bakery, completely absorbed in their moment. That split second when everything aligns. I converted it to black and white in post-processing.
The shallow depth of field isolates them from the busy background. Black and white strips away distraction and focuses on the gesture, the connection, the simple joy of sharing food.
Why This Matters
Constraints are liberating. When you can't control everything, you focus on what matters. You become more intentional. You see more clearly.
Street photography isn't about forcing moments - it's about recognizing them. The random generator keeps me alert, responsive, and constantly adapting.
The Camera
Shot on my Leica D-Lux 8 in Yangcheng, Kaohsiung - one of Taiwan's most authentic old towns.
This is Day 6 of my 365 Project - one photo every day for a year, guided by random creative prompts.
