Day 3/365: The Razor Blade Seller of Yangcheng

Stories Behind Every Storefront

Behind every storefront in Taiwan, there's a story waiting to be told. Today I met this gentleman who's been selling razor blades in Yangcheng, Kaohsiung for decades. His warm smile and genuine pride in his work exemplify what makes Taiwan's local businesses so special.

The Heart of the City

I love capturing these moments because they remind us that the heart of any city isn't found in its landmarks, but in the people who give it life. The striped shirt, the careful arrangement of his products behind the glass counter, the way he lights up when someone shows interest in his story—these are the details that define Taiwan's character and the warmth of its people.

Why This Portrait Matters

Street and portrait photography in Taiwan offers endless opportunities to document authentic human connections. This isn't just a photograph of a shopkeeper—it's a window into the dedication and pride that characterizes Taiwan's small business culture. These local vendors are the keepers of neighborhood stories, the familiar faces that give communities their identity.

The black and white conversion strips away distractions, focusing attention on his expression, the texture of his striped shirt, and the genuine connection between subject and photographer.
