Day 20/365 – Mirror Reflections Before the Storm Hits Kaohsiung

Today was one of those days that reminds me why I love street photography in Taiwan. An unusual typhoon warning for this time of year brought rain to Kaohsiung, and while most people were heading indoors, I grabbed my Fujifilm X-Pro2 and headed to Pier 2.

The real magic happened when I found perfectly still water—so smooth it became a mirror. The reflection of the cityscape, the trees, the sky, and that figure standing on the platform created a moment I couldn't pass up. This is what I mean when I talk about seeing rather than just looking.

The Technical Side:

  • Camera: Fujifilm X-Pro2

  • Lens: 23mm f2

  • Conditions: Overcast, rainy, pre-typhoon weather

  • Location: Pier 2, Kaohsiung

Street photography isn't always about fast shutter speeds and decisive moments. Sometimes it's about patience—taking your time to observe, to wait for the light to shift, for people to move into frame, for reflections to align perfectly. Today's conditions forced me to slow down, and that's exactly what created this shot.

If you're looking to develop this skill—learning how to see composition, light, and shadow in everyday scenes—I offer photography workshops throughout Taiwan, tailored to your interests. Whether it's street photography, technical camera skills, or understanding color and light, we can work together. I also offer global and online mentoring for those who want personalized guidance.
