Day 29/365 — Getting Lost on Tokyo's Subway: Finding Magic in Yokohama and Ginza

Day 29 was a lesson in embracing the unexpected. I got lost on Tokyo's subway system — navigating the labyrinth of trains and platforms can be disorienting. But in the process, I learned something useful: multiple trains can use the same platform. Sometimes confusion leads to understanding.

The morning took me to Yokohama Chinatown, a vibrant pocket of culture and energy. Then back to Tokyo for evening shots in Ginza, where the city transforms under neon and streetlights. But it was cold. Really cold. Thankfully, my friend Ian's generosity meant I didn't have to freeze — a new jacket made all the difference.

Today's image is what I live for as a street photographer. A gentleman on a bicycle, focused and present, with an ephemeral face appearing from the right side of the frame. It's the kind of moment that reminds you why you keep shooting: the unexpected convergence of subjects, light, and timing that creates something you couldn't have planned.

Street photography rewards those who stay curious, keep moving, and remain open to surprise. Whether you're navigating Tokyo's subway or exploring Taiwan's streets, the best moments often come when you're willing to get a little lost.

If you want to develop your eye for these fleeting moments, I offer photography workshops in Taiwan, global and online mentoring, and daily inspiration on Patreon.
