Tokyo Day 3: Leica, Ricoh, and Lightroom in the Rain
It rained all day today.
Normally, I avoid shooting in wet weather unless I’m using weather-sealed gear — and neither the Leica D-Lux 8 nor the Ricoh GR III falls into that category. But I didn’t want to lose the day entirely, so I did what any slightly stubborn photographer would do: I grabbed an umbrella, packed both cameras, and headed out anyway.
First stop: Shibuya Scramble.
It’s chaotic on a regular day, but when it rains? The crossing becomes a blur of umbrellas, reflections, and movement. With the Leica in one hand and my umbrella awkwardly wedged between my shoulder and chin, I managed to grab some shots. I switched to the Ricoh GR for a few quick frames — its compact size made it easier to work with when I needed to stay nimble.
Later, I made my way over to Yodobashi Camera in Akihabara — not just to shelter from the rain, but to look for a USB hub for my iPad (still no luck). I did, however, pick up some black diffusion filters for the Leica. I’m looking forward to testing those out in softer light later this week.
Today’s video is a little different. It starts with a short overview of my day — navigating Tokyo in the rain, shooting under awkward conditions — followed by a slideshow of today’s best shots. After that, I dive into a full Lightroom Mobile tutorial, showing how I edit photos on my iPad when I’m on the road. It’s just over an hour long. If you’re mainly here for the editing, skip ahead to 5:50. If you want to see the images first, the slideshow starts at 3:59.
Sometimes the weather doesn’t cooperate — but that’s part of the story too.
